Animal Emergency of McHenry County is a 24 hour emergency and critical care practice providing veterinary care for companion animals. Emergency Tips

If your pet develops an emergency medical problem, timely care can be crucial to your pets recovery.  The following is a list of common emergency situations that require IMMEDIATE attention:

• Difficulty breathing
• Unresponsiveness
• Blue, purple, pale, or gray gums (mucous membranes)
  
• Open-mouth breathing (cats)
• Major trauma (hit-by-car, broken bones, falls, head trauma)
• Staggering, stumbling, head-tilting
• Sudden blindness
• Ingestion of poison, foreign material or non-prescribed medication
• Inability to urinate or defecate
• Seizures
• Difficulty giving birth to puppies or kittens
• Bloated, distended, swollen or painful abdomen
• Pain
• Persistent vomiting/diarrhea
• Vomiting/diarrhea with blood

The above are common indicators that your pet needs emergency medical attention.  Every pet is unique, therefore, if you feel that your animal is in need of emergency medical attention, please DO NOT HESITATE!
